Ken and Marcie Dahlager
Latin America ChildCare
Providing Hope for Needy Children!
"Through Latin America ChildCare we are able to change the eternal destiny of children, their families, the communities where they live and their nations. We thank God for the opportunity of being involved in this compassion ministry."
After serving as missionaries in Costa Rica for sixteen years and in Mexico for eight, Ken became the director for Latin America ChildCare. LACC today ministers to nearly 100,000 at risk children who attend more than 300 elementary and high schools in 20 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to receiving the basics of life, uniforms, medical and dental attention and a hot meal, these children hear the Good News that Jesus can transform their lives. Today graduates of the schools are professionals, pastors, teachers, school directors and even missionaries. So, in effect, LACC is making an impact on the world.
Both Ken and Marcie were born and raised in Minnesota. Ken graduated from the University of Minnesota, Mankato, with a degree in education, and from North Central University with a degree in Bible and Pastoral Studies. Ken also has a Masters Degree from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. They served as associate pastors in St. Louis Park, MN, and South Bend, IN, and as senior pastors in Wadena, MN.
In 1973 they began their journey into world missions. When their children, Joni and Jon, were only four and six, Ken and Marcie arrived in Costa Rica, where they served for 16 years. They worked with college students, youth ministry, church planting and training ministers to work in the harvest. In 1974 less than three percent of the Costa Rican population was not Catholics. Today, nearly 50% of the population identify with the Evangelical Church Community. The last church the Dahlagers started in Costa Rica has an attendance of more than 6,000 people.
In Costa Rica the Dahlagers were also involved in starting the first six elementary schools. During the last 22 years more than 60,000 children have attended the LACC schools in Costa Rica.
In 1990, Ken and Marcie moved to Mexico City, the world’s largest city. They immediately become involved in training ministers, church planting and Latin America ChildCare. Schools were started in several of the principle cities of Mexico. Today there are 13 LACC schools in Mexico. They also served as Mexico Area Directors, pastoring the Assemblies of God missionary family.
Since 2000 Ken has been serving as Director of Latin America ChildCare. LACC gives caring Christians the opportunity to Provide Hope to Needy Children. Sponsors are connected to children in marginalized communities of Latin America and the Caribbean where they are given the tools to break the chains of poverty.
Ken and Marcie have three children and seven grandchildren. Their son Jon and his family have returned to Costa Rica as missionaries. Joni and Gary Wilemen pastor in Aberdeen, SD. Jenny and her family live in Springfield, MO, and work with youth at their church.
